About the role

Are you an experienced child protection practitioner?  Are you passionate about supporting and educating teams and making a meaningful impact on the lives of children and young people and their families?  If so, please submit your application to become our practice leader – child and family care at selectability.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • conduct in-depth briefings on available services, including intake processes, placements, service delivery, and closure protocols
  • educating staff on policies and procedures, ensuring staff are kept up-to-date with child and family care policies, procedures and our model of care
  • introduce staff to the program and house manuals and provide guidance on its utilisation
  • educate staff on departmental requirements, and legislative obligations
  • educate staff on food-associated risks and best practices
  • raise awareness and provide an understanding on the dangers of cyberbullying
  • educate staff on e-safety risks and strategies to mitigate them
  • implement measures and provide training on how to keep young persons safe

About you

To be considered for this rewarding role you will have:

  • applied knowledge and understanding of child protection and out-of-home care frameworks, including detailed knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999
  • demonstrated ability to be a positive role model for other employees and children and young people to assist them in developing engaging and positive relationships
  • experience working with vulnerable members of community to ensure their human rights are always upheld 
  • strong cultural awareness and understanding of Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures and the issues which impact upon them in society
  • a commitment to best practice
  • excellent organisation and prioritisation skills
  • excellent communication skills and ability to reach at times an isolated audience
  • knowledge of issues young persons in out-of-home care experience such as the impact of childhood abuse, trauma and responding to pain based emotions
  • the ability to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and individuals
  • demonstrated ability to use databases and Microsoft Office Suite

Role Requirements

  • demonstrated experience in child protection, practice and legislation
  • out of hours work may be required from time to time
  • regular travel across the selectability footprint will be required in this role
  • current nationally recognised first aid and CPR certificates (or ability to obtain)
  • a Positive Notice Working with Children (blue card) (or the ability to obtain prior to commencement)
  • a current yellow card exemption or NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or the ability or obtain prior to commencement)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module "Quality, Safety & You" completion certificate (or the ability or obtain prior to commencement)
  • hope and healing for residential care certificate - or ability to obtain
  • a current minimum P1 "C" class Queensland drivers licence

The practice leader is a fulltime position.
