About the role

selectability is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced persons to join our skills-based Board of Directors.  This expression of interest process will consider multiple appointments to recruit to an existing Board vacancy, and support Board succession planning. 

In considering our skills matrix and strategic plan, preference will be provided to applicants who can demonstrate expertise, experience, or capability aligned to either of the following two key areas:

Finance & Accounting:

  • comprehensive technical knowledge and experience in relation to commerce and financial operations of a large, diverse organisation
  • knowledge and understanding of statutory financial reporting requirements of large not-for-profit charities registered with the ACNC
  • experience in an executive leadership role in financial and/or management accounting, financial reporting and/or organisational performance
  • working knowledge of financial statement external audit functions
  • current professional membership with a recognised professional accounting body (highly regarded)

Governance & Strategy:

  • knowledge and understanding of the operations of large not-for-profit charities registered with the ACNC, including current or previous Director roles or executive leadership roles
  • stakeholder engagement and advocacy
  • workforce Strategy and planning
  • strategic planning and performance
  • cultural safety in a community health and personal care context, and/or cultural safety frameworks, services, and work environments
  • formal governance training and/or qualifications with Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), Governance Institute Australia (GIA), or similar (highly regarded)

About you

The successful candidate/s will meet the following role requirements:

  • have a genuine interest in playing an integral role as part of an exciting not-for-profit organisation during a period of growth and expansion in its core activities
  • be able to commit the time and resources to carry out the role
  • high professional and ethical standards, including active participation, sound judgement, capacity to investigate information constructively and relate effectively with a range of stakeholders

Role Requirements

  • a Positive Notice Working with Children (blue card) (or the ability to obtain prior to commencing)
  • national Police Check and meet Fit and Proper persons requirements;
  • a current yellow card exemption or NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or the ability or obtain prior to commencement)
  • director identification number

All Board appointments are remunerated in accordance with the Constitution.  Board meetings are held monthly on the last Tuesday of every month from 1-5pm.  Additionally, Directors are also expected to participate in at least one (1) Board Committee, which are ordinarily held quarterly.  All Board and Board Committee meetings are held virtually, with the exception of four (4) face-to-face Board meetings each calendar year.

selectability is a not-for-profit charity with a primary focus of improving mental wellbeing and contributing to suicide prevention across regional Queensland.

We have been providing community mental health services to regional Queenslanders for over 40 years. selectability was rebranded in March 2017, following the merger of Supported Options in Lifestyle and Access Services (SOLAS) and Mental Illness Fellowship North Queensland (MIFNQ).

We believe everyone has the right to access high-quality supports locally and have recently expanded our services to include child and family care, and residential aged care in the Lower Gulf.  We are experiencing significant and steady growth.
