About the role

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of older persons and persons with a disability? selectability is seeking a dedicated and dynamic head cook to lead the delivery of our new services in Aurukun.  This casual role can be FIFO working a roster of 6 weeks onsite and 2 weeks offsite with meals, accommodation and travel costs covered by selectability, or if living locally, a 5 days on/2 days off roster can be accommodated. 

In this rewarding role, you'll prepare nutritious and delicious meals that support the health and well-being of older persons and persons with a disability, ensuring their dietary needs are met with care and creativity. Your culinary expertise will contribute to enhancing their quality of life while respecting their dignity, independence, and cultural backgrounds.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• prepare and cook meals in accordance with dietary requirements and preferences
• maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, adhering to food safety standards
• collaborate with the care team to create meal plans that promote residents’ health and well-being
• oversee and mentor cooks, ensuring high-quality meal preparation and compliance with food safety standards
• manage inventory and order supplies as needed to ensure fresh and high-quality ingredients
• provide exceptional service to older persons, ensuring a positive dining experience

About you

To be successful you must: 

• work efficiently under pressure while maintaining professionalism
• prepare and serve nutritious meals for older persons and persons with a disability, considering their dietary requirements and preferences
• experience menu planning, to ensure nutritional needs are being met
• knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
• excellent time management skills
• ability to communicate clearly and effectively
• support and respect diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
• willingness to travel by road and small plane
• ability to work FIFO roster 6 weeks onsite 2 weeks offsite

Role Requirements

• certificate III in Commercial Cookery or the equivalent
• food hygiene/ Food Handlers Certificate (highly desirable) 
• previous experience working in FIFO hospitality industry (desirable)
• knowledge of food safety standards and HACCP (highly desirable)
• current nationally recognised first aid & CPR certificate
• a current minimum P1 "C" class Queensland drivers licence 
• a current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or the ability to obtain)
• NDIS Worker Orientation Module 'Quality, Safety & You' completion certificate
