About the role

Are you passionate about providing a supportive and nurturing environment for young people? selectability is seeking a dedicated House Leader to join our Child & Family Care team in Ingham. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the well-being and development of young people within our care. You will oversee day-to-day operations, mentor youth workers, and collaborate with the Child and Family Care central team to provide the highest standard of care.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• prepare and submit reports on each young person within the home on a fortnightly basis
• support, buddy, and mentor youth workers to enhance their skills and effectiveness
• respond to intake enquiries in partnership with the Child and Family Care central team
• develop and maintain individualised care plans for each young person
• inform the development of Individual Crisis Support Plans in consultation with the therapeutic advisor
• manage routines, shopping, property damage claim forms, contingency claims, and house quality checks
• organise and manage the rostering for the home
• maintain compliance with program requirements including case notes, emails, and contact records. Oversee additional programs such as supervised contact and respite

About you

To be successful you must:

• applied knowledge and understanding of child protection and out-of-home care frameworks, including knowledge of, or the ability to acquire knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999
• demonstrated ability to be a positive role model for other employees and children and young people to assist them in developing engaging and positive relationships
• experience working with vulnerable members of community to ensure their human rights are always upheld 
• strong cultural awareness and understanding of Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures and the issues which impact upon them in society
• a commitment to best practice
• excellent organisation and prioritisation skills
• excellent communication skills and ability to reach at times an isolated audience
• knowledge of issues young persons in out-of-home care experience such as the impact of childhood abuse, trauma and responding to pain based emotions
• the ability to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and individuals
• demonstrated ability to use databases and Microsoft Office Suite

Role requirements

• certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention for Residential Care (or hold a relevant approved qualification)
• willingness to perform after hours on call through a rostered system
• a Child Safety & Personal History Screening check
• a Positive Notice Working with Children (blue card) (or the ability to obtain)
• hope and healing certificate (to be completed upon commencement)
• NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or the ability to obtain)
• NDIS Worker Orientation Module "Quality, Safety & You" completion certificate
• a current minimum P1 "C" class Queensland drivers licence
• a roadworthy vehicle with comprehensive insurance
